At the 2022 annual meeting of the American College of Mohs Surgery (ACMS), Springfield Clinic dermatologist and Mohs surgeon Bridget McIlwee, DO, was named to the ACMS Mohs Surgeons Leading the Future leadership and development program. Dr. McIlwee is one of only eight physicians to be selected in the United States.

“It is an honor to be selected to serve in this leadership program and be a representative for Springfield Clinic and the central Illinois region,” says McIlwee. “This program will help me continue to provide better care for my patients while addressing their micrographic surgery and dermatologic oncology needs.”

The selection committee specifically highlighted that Dr. McIlwee is not only fellowship trained in Mohs surgery, but also board certified in both dermatology and dermatopathology, which is unique for the field.

The ACMS Mohs Surgeons Leading the Future is a year-long professional development program ending in May 2023. The program includes project-based learning, mentorship and leadership training. The purpose of the program is to support and grow the influence of Mohs surgeons and the ACMS in their commitment to patients with skin cancers by developing and strengthening a pipeline for leadership within ACMS.

Mohs surgery is an advanced treatment for skin cancer that offers the highest cure rate—even if the skin cancer has been previously treated with another procedure.
