The Eye Institute offers world-class comprehensive eye care for the entire family right here in central Illinois.

We make it a priority to listen carefully and thoroughly assess your eye health needs. If you suffer an eye injury, you will be seen promptly. Referrals for various eye conditions are expedited, often in days instead of weeks or months.

Most of our procedures are performed at Springfield Clinic's Main Campus, either in the office or at our Ambulatory Surgery & Endoscopy Center. Whether you are referred to one of our ophthalmologists, have a routine eye exam with an optometrist or need glasses and contacts, you can do it all at one convenient location at Springfield Clinic.

Optometry

Springfield Clinic optometrists see patients at multiple locations, two of which have Optical Centres. At an Optical Centre, you can browse and purchase frames, be fitted for glasses and receive routine and medical comprehensive eye exams.

Annual eye exams

One of the best ways to ensure your eyes are healthy and seeing their best is to have an annual eye exam. Many eye diseases can be prevented or more successfully treated when detected early.

When are eye exams necessary?

All children should have their eyes checked before age three. If the child has eye problems, such as a crossed, wandering eye, or tearing, droopy lids, their eyes should be checked earlier.

You should have your eyes checked every one to two years. If you experience problems, such as visual changes, light sensitivity, redness, pain, flashes, floaters or tearing, or if you sustain an eye injury, you should be checked more frequently.

You should have your eyes checked every one to two years or as recommended.

You should have a baseline eye exam at age 40, unless you’re having symptoms or have a risk factor for eye disease. Presbyopia and cataracts start to appear around this age.

If you have diabetes, high blood pressure, auto-immune disorders or family history of eye diseases, consult your ophthalmologist or optometrist for how often you should be examined.
