Greg Maurer, MD, Joins Springfield Clinic Urology

Gregory Maurer, MD, took an unconventional path to medicine, choosing to enroll in medical school instead of pursuing a PhD in chemistry after receiving his undergraduate degree in the subject. Dr. Maurer attended the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Peoria, Ill., for his medical degree, followed by a general surgery internship and urology residency at the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine in Columbia, Mo.

Dr. Maurer chose urology as a specialty because of the people he met during his urology rotation in medical school. But now, Dr. Maurer knows he wouldn’t want to do anything else. “My favorite part of practicing medicine is making people better,” he says. “I think for most surgeons, the satisfaction of being able to go in and fix something and visibly make someone’s life better—that’s the best part.”

Board certified in urology, Dr. Maurer has 14 years of experience in the field and will provide generalized urology care at Springfield Clinic. He has particular expertise in treating bladder cancer and helping patients through the challenges that come along with it. The Springfield Clinic Urology team specializes in the treatment of genitourinary conditions for male and female patients of all ages, including kidney stones, disorders of the bladder and treatments for incontinence, and conditions of the male reproductive system, including prostate cancer, vasectomies, benign prostatic hyperplasia and erectile dysfunction. Additionally, our urologists work with patients on disease prevention and provide surgical intervention when necessary.

When he’s not working, Dr. Maurer participates with his children’s swim teams and has recently started gardening. Learn more about Dr. Maurer and Springfield Clinic Urology at www.SpringfieldClinic.com/Urology.
