Stephanie Swope, MD, spent the majority of her younger years in Florida, including completing her Bachelor of Science degree at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Fla. She then headed to the Midwest for her medical training, earning her medical degree with St. Louis University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Mo., followed by an internal medicine internship and her diagnostic radiology residency with Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield, Ill.
Driven by a love a travel and adventure, Dr. Swope’s first job after residency landed her in Zurich, Switzerland. Due to the time zone difference, she was able to perform overnight imaging interpretation for U.S.-based Radiology practices, with the benefit of doing so from her office in Zurich during the day.
After being surrounded by the picturesque landscapes of Switzerland, Dr. Swope then moved to the land of mountains and hiking trails in Boulder, Colo., where she and her husband Matthew have raised their three sons. In 2013, she embraced the opportunity to join a practice where she was able to work once again with former fellow residents and attendings in Springfield, Ill., remotely from Colorado.
Dr. Swope describes that one of the most rewarding parts of her job is to be able to contribute to the care of patients of physicians she has known since she first moved to Springfield, Ill., for her training. Though she is a physician who hails originally from Florida, and now lives in Colorado, after making many lifetime friendships during her time in the Midwest, it seems especially fitting to continue her career with Springfield Clinic.
