About VenaCure EVLT

50% of people over age 50 are affected by Chronic Venous Disease.

VenaCure EVLT laser treatment is a nonsurgical, outpatient procedure, requiring no more than a needle-sized entry point. VenCure EVLT seals the incompetent veins. What causes varicose veins?

Up to 40% women and 25% men are affected by varicose veins

Varicose veins develop when normally toned, elastic vein walls become weak, allowing the recirculating blood that should be moving toward your heart to flow backward. This blood then builds up against the vein wall, which leads to further damage and results in the twisted and bulging appearance.

VenaCure EVLT procedure diagramVenaCure EVLT is a highly effective and safe treatment for varicose veins. The procedure is done by using an ultrasound to map out your vein. After a local anesthetic is applied, a thin laser fiber is inserted through a tiny entry point, and laser energy is delivered to seal the faulty vein.

The post-procedure recovery is usually uneventful, with patients experiencing minimal discomfort, bruising or swelling. The procedure lasts about an hour — depending on each case. The goal is to have patients up and walking as soon as possible; most patients are able to resume normal activity that day.

You may feel some discomfort the evening of your procedure.  Be sure to take your medication as directed by your physician. You’ll also need to care for your surgical incisions. Your physician will request that you wear your compression stockings continuously for 48 hours following your procedure until you return for your follow-up ultrasound.  You will have Steri-Strips in place at the insertion site; leave the Steri-Strip in place. The Steri-Strips will begin to come loose after 7 days, at which time you can remove them.

You may shower after your 48 hour post-op ultrasound. No bathing or swimming until the Steri-strips are removed. It is normal for some blood to accumulate under your dressings.  You will experience some bruising. For optimal results, you’ll want to wear your compression stockings for 7 days following your procedure, removing them only for showers and at bedtime.
