About This Provider

David Akerele, MD, attended medical school at the Pennsylvania State College of Medicine in Hershey, PA. He completed his pediatrics residency at Rush Medical Center in Chicago, IL followed by a fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Diseases at Emory University Medical Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

Dr. Akerele’s motivation to go into medicine was strongly influenced by his love for children. As he developed a fondness for science, and an inclination towards the field of medicine, his natural destination was pediatrics. “I didn’t even consider adult medicine; it was always pediatrics.”

Dr. Akerele has a diverse clinical background and has worked through the H1NI epidemic during his residency and the Ebola epidemic during his time at Emory and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Akerele also worked as an infectious Diseases consultant. He volunteered at Aletheia Classic Christian to develop health care policies during the pandemic and manage COVID-19 in-school-health cases.

Clinically, Dr. Akerele sees patients from birth to their senior year of college. His first patients were a set of triplets, and he continues to enjoy working with premature infants. As he is board certified in both general pediatrics and pediatric infectious diseases, so he also enjoys travel medicine and managing interesting infections.

“Overall, I would say I enjoy helping families navigate behavioral and developmental struggles. I love Diagnostic Medicine, Asthma management, and Dermatology. I also really love working with adolescents and young adults. You get to offer medical, professional, philosophical, spiritual, moral advice during a critical period in their development. It is a blessing and an honor to witness the evolution as adolescent youth transition to young adults.”

Dr. Akerele has been married to his wife Natalie for 13 years. They have been blessed with two children. He serves as a board member at Aletheia Christian School and is a member of Grace Presbyterian church in Peoria. He loves reading, traveling with his family, producing music, and laughing with family, friends and loved ones.
