Tired of plucking unwanted hair? Irritated by razor burn? Regret your tattoo? Cosmetic Laser Treatments could be the solution to cosmetic laser treatment linkyour problem.

Laser therapy works effectively and safely to provide a non-invasive treatment for a variety of cosmetic and dermatological skin conditions such as tattoo removal, hair removal, sun-damaged skin and age spots.

What to expect:

  • Laser energy is delivered through a small hand-piece, absorbed by the skin and converted to heat.
  • Laser feels like a warm flash of heat.
  • Your skin may be pink (like a sunburn) immediately following the procedure and could last up to several hours.
  • Treatment times may vary depending on specific needs, but treatments can usually be performed within a few minutes up to 30 minutes.
  • Possible complications include: postinflammatory hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, hypertrophic scarring or herpes flare up.

CO2 Laser Resurfacing

About

  • This laser uses very short bursts of light energy to vaporize skin layers at the surface. Since the light is focused and controlled, the technique can be used to remove precise amounts of skin with minimal damage. This technique is designed to reduce irregularities in the skin, including acne scars, blemishes and even wrinkles.
  • The treatment is meant to remove the upper layers of the skin to create a smoother, more even surface. The procedure itself also stimulates skin to produce collagen, which aids in building a more stable structure. As new skin is produced during the healing period, improved appearance and tone can be expected several weeks to months after.

What to Expect

  • A numbing agent will have to be administered to minimize pain. This is usually given in the form of topical or local anesthesia. In some patients, anesthesia may be combined with sedatives taken orally.
  • Treatment could take 30 minutes to an hour. It is an out-patient procedure. You can expect to go home immediately after treatment. If a sedative is given, you will need a driver.
  • After the procedure, a soothing product will be applied to the treated area to protect it. Since the outer layer of the skin is exposed during the first few days post-treatment, it is recommended that patients stay indoors to prevent exposure to sunlight, pollutants and other irritants that may lead to infection.
  • It is normal for the treated area to feel and look like a sunburn for a week. Full recovery can be expected in 1-2 months, with continued improvement for the next several months post-treatment.

Potential Side Effects, Risks and Complications

  • Discomfort: You may experience discomfort, a burning sensation or pain during the first few days.
  • Redness of skin: This is expected for at least one week after treatment. However, it may occur two to six months and possibly longer.
  • Skin tightness: Sensation of skin tightness may occur (peaks at three to eight weeks post-treatment).
  • Skin pigment changes: Transient hyperpigmentation (darkening of the skin) could occur three to eight weeks post laser treatment. Hyperpigmentation may be resolved with bleaching solutions but hypopigmentation (lightening of the skin) is difficult to correct.
  • Skin itchiness: Can occur in the early healing phase. Using Aquaphor® will help. You may take 25 mg of Benadryl® at bedtime to help relieve symptoms.
  • Acne breakouts: Immediately following the treatment, some patients may experience acne breakouts. These often fade away as the skin heals.
Herpes simplex (fever blisters): Occurrence or recurrence of herpes simplex is a possible short-term effect. Please inform us of your history before laser treatment. It will be necessary to pre-treat with oral antiviral medication.
  • Swelling: The treatment sometimes results in some degree of swelling after the procedure. Elevating the head after the procedure and using cool soaks may help reduce this.
  • Infection: Bacterial infection can occur if treated area is not cleansed or becomes contaminated.
  • Wound healing: Oozing, weeping, crusting and flakiness are rare but may persist for the first week. Gently wash your face with cool soaks and a mixture of hydrogen peroxide. (Mix two tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide with 6 ounces of water and use in a spray bottle.) Continue to use Aquaphor®.
  • Scarring: Risk of scarring is rare but exists in all cases. It is variable and often related to an individual's genetic makeup.
