Camp Granada - Camp for Children with Diabetes

Camp Granada is an opportunity for children with diabetes to learn more about themselves and their diabetes in a fun-filled and safe camping environment.  The program of Camp Granada encourages independence and self-management and is associated with the American Diabetes Association. Camp Granada is designed for children ages 8 years (by 9/1/10) through 16 years of age. 

Camper Activities: boating, swimming, fishing, arts and crafts, archery, recreation games and nature walks.  Evening programs include a carnival, beach party and dance.

Philosophy of Camp Granada:

  1. To provide a fun, healthy, and safe environment for the campers.
  2. To stress the importance of normal blood sugar levels and self-management as the goals for all persons with diabetes.
  3. To emphasize self-esteem, team building, peer relationships, and positive attitudes about coping with diabetes. 
  4. A tertiary aspect of the camp will be to educate health professionals and students in the area of diabetes.

Greater Illinois Area - American Diabetes Association, Springfield Type 1 Support Group

The Greater Illinois Area - American Diabetes Association offers a Type 1 Diabetes support group for children and their families. Events are planned every 3-4 months for discussions on issues and experiences related to Type 1 Diabetes in conjunction to fun filled events.  All ages are welcome.
