Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a safe, drug-free, and effective therapy that can help with many common medical problems, including fatigue, headaches, fibromyalgia, arthritis, chronic pain, menopause and a wide variety of other conditions.

Massage Therapy

Trained and licensed massage therapists at Springfield Clinic offer massage therapy for various conditions. Massage therapy techniques can decrease swelling and impaired joint mobility, ease muscle spasms and muscle tension, and increase circulation to promote healing. Massage also can reduce pain and improve muscle tone. Other benefits of massage therapy include reduced stress and extreme stress, anxiety and pain; improved levels of alertness; enhanced sleep patterns; release of endorphins (the body's natural painkillers); relaxation and increased oxygen supply. Massage also can reduce heart rate and blood pressure and increase energy and immune system activity.

Specialists at Springfield Clinic recognize that many complementary and alternative medicine treatments such as massage can promote physical, mental and spiritual wellness. They have created a new specialty (complementary and integrative medicine) to blend the best of both worlds—conventional medicine and complementary and alternative medicine. Physicians and massage therapists at Springfield Clinic work together to coordinate a massage therapy treatment plan for an injury or condition as part of a patient's plan of care.

Massage therapy is often recommended for these conditions:

  • Neck and back pain
  • Headaches
  • Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain and dysfunction
  • Muscle and joint pain
  • Paresthesias (numbness and tingling sensations) and nerve pain
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Myofascial pain syndrome
  • Anxiety
  • Stress-related insomnia
  • Digestive disorders
  • Sports injuries
  • Soft tissue injuries
  • Extreme Stress

Neuromuscular Massage Therapy

Neuormuscular therapy is a style of bodywork that works with soft tissue (muscle, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and skin) of the body using varying degrees of pressure and movement after evaluating the patient's needs. The therapy is targeted at specific points, often where the trigger points have formed in the muscle, and the massage strokes used depend on the injury or condition. This treatment works to release the point of tension in the muscle.

John Barnes Myofascial Release Approach

MFR is a therapeutic approach for the relief of chronic back, neck and shoulder pain, and can also be used to benefit patients with fibromyalgia. The technique uses palpatory feedback, applying constant tension to an area until a release occurs.

Help with Quitting Smoking

Every year, more than 3 million Americans try to quit smoking, but only half of them succeed. With the help of acupuncture you have a greater chance of success!

Most experts agree that quitting smoking is the single most important thing you can do for your health. More than 25 diseases are associated with tobacco use, including cancer of the lungs, bladder, mouth, larynx, pharynx, esophagus, pancreas, kidney, uterus and cervix. Smoking also raises the chances of developing emphysema and increases the rise of having a stroke by 30 percent.

There are plenty of incentives to quit, but it isn't necessarily easy. The good news is that acupuncture has helped millions of people to kick the smoking habit.

How acupuncture can help

Some of the largest stumbling blocks to becoming smoke-free are the stress, anxiety and depression associated with quitting. Fortunately, acupuncture treatment is quite successful at calming and relaxing the mind, reducing anxiety and alleviating depressive feelings. Specific acupoints in the ear and wrist are used to accomplish this. Additional acupoints may be included that help suppress your appetite, stimulate repair and healing of organ systems, and reduce food and nicotine cravings.

More than just kicking the habit

Using acupuncture to quit smoking yields enormous benefits. Aside from taking care of the stumbling blocks that can cause you to resume the habit, acupuncture can help restore your body to a healthy state of balance and well-being. If you are ready to become smoke-free, acupuncture can provide you with the support you need.

EMF Therapy with Magnets

EMF therapy with magnets can be a simple solution to help you manage your pain, reducing or even eliminating pain entirely. Call our office at 217.528.7541 today to make an appointment with magnet specialist Windie McKay, DC, and see if this therapy is right for you.

How does EMF therapy work?

With varying strengths of magnets applied to the human body, your specialist can measure a reduction in action potential of the nerve. Action potential is how a neuron transports electrical signals: When there is a brief change in voltage, the brain receives it to be interpreted. Some of these signals register as pain, so when certain types of magnets are placed over an area where there is pain, the action is lowered, thereby lessening or eliminating pain.

Magnets vary in size, strength and polarity. Depending on what level of pain you experience and where, EMF devices can be used to modulate that pain. Magnets can also lower inflammation and assist in cellular regeneration. Minerals in the blood stream have magnetic charges; when blood is drawn to an injured area through EMF therapy, there can be increased healing in that area.

Are there any risks with EMF therapy?

Humans are electrical, and our nervous system runs with a set voltage. Changing the voltage or frequency isn’t always a good thing, and certain conditions related to the nervous system can be made worse when a medical magnet is placed in certain areas.

Implanted devices can also have related side effects in general. Talk to your primary care provider if you have any conditions that may affect how effective EMF therapy is for you.

How long does EMF therapy take?

How long you should use magnets for pain and healing depends on what type of problem you are experience. Please note that some conditions do require an extended period of time to achieve a positive outcome.
