About Springfield Clinic

Clinical Education

Clinical EducationWith more than 350 nurses at more than 20 medical offices in the central Illinois area, the levels of education and training vary widely within the Springfield Clinic workforce—ranging from recent graduates to those with thirty years of experience or more. The Clinical Education Department instructs Springfield clinic staff members on important skills from CPR and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support to clinical competencies.

In addition, the department is a provider unit for continuing education and features monthly “brown bag” educational events featuring presentations from physicians, advanced practice nurses and physician assistants.

The Clinical Education team orchestrates orientation for newly hired nursing staff and medical assistants. This orientation engages new employees in risk management, policy and procedures, lateral violence, professionalism and collaboration. Clinical Education coordinators host monthly skills lab for newly hired or seasoned staff including vaccine standards, injection training, basic EKG, and IV access—all of which will be necessary in their positions as Springfield Clinic nursing staff.
