Dhiren Patel, MD, was inspired by his uncle to become a doctor. “I remember being in middle school, seeing patients with him at his clinic,” he says. To achieve that goal, Dr. Patel attended B.J. Medical College, Ahmedabad, India, for his medical degree. He completed his residency in general surgery at New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where he was also chief resident, and then followed up with a fellowship in vascular surgery at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center College of Medicine. To expand his horizons in the field of endovascular surgery, he enrolled in advanced aortic endovascular training for treatment of complex aortic disease at the world-renowned Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.
Board certified in general surgery, Dr. Patel’s favorite part about surgery is how it involves careful planning and technical finesse—with immediate reward for a job well done. While he practices all aspects of vascular surgery, from aortic and carotid disease to peripheral vascular disease, hemodialysis access and venous disease, he is especially interested in treating simple and complex aortic aneurysms with conventional standards as well as fenestrated stent grafts. But, he says overall his favorite part of practicing medicine is simply being able to help someone in need.
Dr. Patel will be located at Springfield Clinic 1st – 800 Building on the fourth floor. He will also have clinic and surgery hours at Springfield Clinic Lincoln starting in November. Springfield Clinic’s Vascular Surgery team uses evidence-based medicine and comprehensive, compassionate care to provide evaluation and surgical treatment for all conditions related to and diseases of the peripheral vascular system.
