Administrative/Consultative Services
ADA Compliance - Assures that the employer and employee receive
equal opportunity with respect to employment. In 1992, the Equal
Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) final regulations implementing
the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 went into effect. The
regulations (29 CFR 1630.14[b][3]) state: Medical examinations
conducted in accordance with this Section do not have to be job
related and consistent with business necessity. However, if certain
criteria are used to screen out an employee or employees with disabilities
as a result of such an examination or inquiry, the exclusionary
criteria must be job-related and consistent with business necessity,
and performance of the essential job functions cannot be accomplished
with reasonable accommodation as required in this part. The Americans
with Disabilities Act requires post job screening, disability assessments
and job site inspections, all available through Springfield Clinic,
LLP.
Epidemiological Investigations - Involves the study of the prevalence
and spread of disease in a community and determining specific
causes of health problems or disease in a locality. MOHA physicians
can
begin the complicated process of prevention through early identification
of hazardous exposure(s) in the workplace.
Ergonomics - Involves a branch of ecology dealing with human
factors in the design and operations of machines, and in the
physical environment. The high cost of cumulative trauma disorders
and back injuries has created a demand for sensible and effective
ergonomic programs. MOHA physicians and therapists are experts
in addressing work-related problems and in performing risk assessments
to determine practical solutions and controls.
Health Care Cost Containment - In Occupational Medicine, cost
containment is always at the forefront of attention. Physicians
and case managers will discuss the most cost effective ways to
manage cases, regarding diagnostic testing, consultation referrals,
medical equipment and pharmaceuticals.
OSHA Compliance - is necessary to maintain accurate services
and records for both the medical provide4r and employer. Workplace
absenteeism due to injuries and illness represents an enormous
additional cost to employers due to absent employee wages, replacement
employees, medical costs, worker's compensation premiums, regulatory
fines, legal expenses, retraining and rehabilitation. MOHA subscribes
to available regulatory updates and continuing education. All
technicians are certified in the appropriate assessments, such
as BAT (Breath Alcohol Testing) and Audiologic examinations,
together with inspections, maintenance and calibration of all
equipment used in evaluations.
Worker's Compensation Case Management - is an integral part
of Occupational Medicine. Prompt evaluation, treatment and/or
referral of work related injuries often result in reduction in
lost work time. Accurate assessment of the claim, medical records
and employer input can reduce the risk of legal and compensatory
claims. Registered nurses and vocational experts work directly
with medical providers to facilitate the safe and timely return
to work of employees.
Work Site Job Analysis - is a service offered by our Case Management
nurses or physicians. Describing the job with respect to the
Physical Demand Level for Work standard written by the U.S. Department
of Labor allows us to address ADA Compliance issues or causality
and the association with medical diagnosis. Having a detailed
job analysis to communicate between the employer, employee and
medical provider facilitates and early return to work with modified
or restricted duty. The work site job analysis can also be used
as a tool to command an immediate full duty release to return
to work and activities of daily living.
