At Springfield Clinic’s The Center for Plastic Surgery, we believe it is essential for our patients to be well-informed and develop a thorough understanding of the procedures they are considering. The information below provides a general overview of this specific plastic surgery procedure.
Who is a candidate for Eyelid Lift? Anyone who has sagging eyelids which are interfering with vision or creating a stressed and tired appearance. Springfield, IL plastic surgeons Dr. Bergman, Dr. Brown, and Dr. Sinha are experienced performing eyelid lift.
Intended results: Widening field of vision and creating a more rested appearance.
Procedure description:
- Eyelid lift surgery (blepharoplasty) is done on an outpatient basis general anesthesia or MAC (Monitored Anesthesia Care).
- The incisions are made where the natural crease should be in the upper lids and below the lash line in the lower lids, and excess fat and skin are removed.
- If only excess fat is present in the lower lids, it may be removed through an incision inside the lower lids with no external incision or scar (called a transconjunctival blepharoplasty).
Recuperation and healing: Initial mild discomfort is easily controlled with oral medication. Bruising and sensitivity to light last at least a week or two, and swelling progressively disappears in 1 to 2 weeks. Eye makeup can be used after sutures are removed, and contact lenses can be worn when comfortable - usually within 7 to 10 days.
Other options: Additional procedures that may enhance the result of an eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) are Browlift or Facelift.
Note: The specific risks and the suitability of this procedure for a given individual can be determined only at the time of consultation. All surgical procedures have some degree of risk. Minor complications that do not affect the outcome occur occasionally. Major complications are unusual.
