At Springfield Clinic’s The Center for Plastic Surgery, we believe it is essential for our patients to be well-informed and develop a thorough understanding of the procedures they are considering. The information below provides a general overview of this specific plastic surgery procedure.
Who is a candidate for Body Lift? Anyone who has achieved significant weight loss, which is often a critical step in improving your health, longevity, and quality of life. Whether through, diet, exercise, or bariatric surgery (gastric bypass surgery), you have accomplished a lot. Are you ready to enjoy your newfound health, but feel (and look) burdened by excess skin? Springfield, IL plastic surgeons Dr. Bergman, Dr. Brown, and Dr. Sinha are experienced performing body contouring.
Intended results: A permanent improvement in the contour and proportion of the treated areas. Great comfort and self-confidence, in or out of clothing.
Procedure description:
- You doctor will help you determine the best procedure or combination of procedures for you, such as a belt lipectomy or other circumferential surgical procedures.
-
The procedures usually require a short stay in the hospital.
- General anesthesia is usually used for safety and comfort.
- Incisions are made as needed and excess skin is removed.
Recuperation and healing:The patient goes home with a compression garment (or tape) covering the treated areas. Compression is advised for about a month as it helps reduce swelling. Once pain and soreness decrease, it is frequently more comfortable to wear lycra or spandex exercise pants. Initial discomfort is easily controlled with oral medication.
Bruising and swelling usually subside in 2-4 weeks. The final result takes shape over 2-3 months.
Other options: Additional procedures that may enhance the result are Arm Lift, Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty), Breast Reduction, Thigh Lift, or Buttock Lift.
Note: The specific risks and the suitability of this procedure for a given individual can be determined only at the time of consultation. All surgical procedures have some degree of risk. Minor complications that do not affect the outcome occur occasionally. Major complications are unusual.
