Diabetes educators may provide you education at any of your visits with our Endocrinologist. As educators, Denise and Sarah work with your Endocrinologist to develop the best management program for you.

We can provide you with a variety of education including the following:
- Instruction and basic explanation of your endocrine diagnosis i.e. Type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, etc.
- Instruction with medication, and medication devices, including insulin.
- Insulin pump therapy instruction.
- Review and make recommendations to your medication regimen based upon blood sugar readings.
Denise and Sarah are often there to review your progress towards your diabetes goals, answer any questions you may have regarding your diabetes, and instruct you on changes or addition to your diabetes program. We can be helpful by visiting with you to “trouble shoot” your blood sugar readings, offering feedback with your program, and reviewing your program and needs with you.
As diabetic educators, Denise and Sarah attend continuing education seminars, including the annual American Association of Diabetes Education (AADE) conference, which provides educators with the newest techniques and resources to enhance patient education.
Our department participates in the annual Kiss A Pig Gala. This is a major fundraising event that helps to raise money for the American Diabetes Association. We also have helped organize a Clinic-wide representation of World Diabetes Day to raise awareness of diabetes in our community.
Denise Stumpf RN, BSN, CDE, CPT
Denise is a registered nurse with a Certification in Diabetes Education (CDE). She also is a certified insulin pump trainer. Denise has worked in Springfield Clinic's Endocrinology Department since 1997.
Sarah Tierney RN, BSN, CDE, CPT
Sarah is a registered nurse with a Certification in Diabetes Education (CDE) also. She is a certified pump trainer, and has been with Springfield Clinic's Endocrinology Department since 2007.
