Dermatology Services

The providers in our department provide a comprehensive array of dermatology services, including but not limited to the following:

Dermatological surgery for skin cancer and benign growths- The surgical procedures performed by our providers occur in one of our surgical suites without sedation. When possible these are done the same day of the initial office visit, but at times the procedures may need to be rescheduled due to time constraints. We can provided surgical services for pediatric patients under local anesthesia in a calm, friendly environment utilizing distraction techniques.  General or concious sedation is also available at our Ambulatory Surgery Center for children who may benefit from these services.  Our goal is to optimize the experience for the whole family while minimizing the degree of intervention when possible.

Ultraviolet light treatments (narrow band uvb)- Ultraviolet light treatments can benefit many types of skin conditions, including psoriasis, dermatitis, itching, vitiligo and other less common dermatological conditions. The narrow band uvb light box is more effective than previous light boxes and allows for shorter treatment times for the patient. Usually the light treatments are just for a few minutes several times a week for a number of weeks until the desired benefit has been reached.

Botox for hyperhidrosis- Injected into areas of excessive perspiration, Botox can dramatically improve the condition. The most common areas treated are the axillae, palms and soles. The duration is 6-12 months. Insurance frequently will cover this procedure.

Cosmetic consultations- These consultations can be scheduled to help outline a personal skin care regimen and cosmetic treatment options.

  • Laser treatments- We have many different lasers available for different skin conditions including KTP Laser for small blood vessels; V-Beam Laser (pulse dye) for redness, pigmentation, port wine stains and other vascular birthmarks; a resurfacing laser, the DOT Laser for photorejeuvenation; laser for hair removal and yag laser for tattoo removal. All the lasers are done as an in-office procedure with no sedation. A topical anesthetic cream may be needed before the hair removal and resurfacing lasers. Most laser treatments will require more than one treatment. Depending on the laser, the recovery time varies from several hours to several days. It can take days or weeks to see the maximum benefit after laser treatments.
  • Sclerotherapy- Sclerotherapy is the use of an injectable salt solution using a fine needle into spider veins on the legs. Frequently more than one treatment session is required for the desired improvement depending on the size of the vessels treated. Compression hosiery is recommended after the procedure for sustained results.
  • Cosmetic Botox - Botox is a purified protein injected into the skin to relax dynamic facial wrinkles producing a more relaxed and pleasant appearance. Common areas treated are the forehead, frown lines, crow’s feet, upper lip, chin and neck. The duration varies from 2-6 months depending on the location. This is a simple and safe procedure. Normal activity can be resumed immediately
  • Dermal fillers- Fillers are injected into areas of the face to help restore volume loss caused by aging especially in the parentheses around the mouth, chin and lips. Superficial scarring also can be treated with certain fillers. Many different fillers are available with variable durations of effect. This is a quick, in-office procedure.
  • Microdermabrasion- Superficial skin resurfacing is possible with our medical grade microdermabrasion system, the Diamond Tome, which produces superficial exfoliation that removes the outer dead layer of skin cells leaving the skin more supple and vibrant. A series of treatments can improve the appearance of sun damaged skin or superficial scars and promote the growth of healthy new skin cells..
  • Glycolic acid peels- Chemical peels can correct sun damage, smooth mild scarring, decrease the appearance of fine wrinkles and improve irregular pigmentation. Combined with microdermasion and topical peeling glycolic acid creams, the peel provides an even more dramatic result.
  • Retail products for skin care including Latisse®- Topical products available in our office including those containing retinoids, glycolic acid and growth factors can improve the damage caused by the sun such as fine lines, irregular pigmentation, rough skin texture, and lack-luster skin.   Latisse is a topical solution applied like eyeliner to the upper lid resulting in long lush lashes. This needs to be continued to maintain the length of the lashes. One bottle of Latisse lasts approximately 6 weeks.
