Care of Skin Biopsy

1. A clean dry dressing will normally be applied to all biopsy sites. Leave this dressing in place until the next day.
2. The next day, clean the biopsy site gently with mild soap and water.
3. Apply a thick layer of Vaseline to the biopsy site daily for 7-10 days. Vaseline can be purchased at any drug store without a prescription.
4. Cover the biopsy site with a bandage until completely healed.
5. If bleeding occurs, apply 20 minutes of constant pressure. If bleeding persists, call the office or go to the nearest emergency room.
6. Call the office, 217.528.7541, if you experience swelling, pain, or drainage from the biopsy site.
