Welcome to Colon & Rectal Surgery

Sadly, nearly 50,000 Americans will die this year from colorectal cancer, but there is good news. Colonoscopies save lives! Through testing and early detection, many polyps can be found while they are still harmless and removed before they can grow into cancer. Springfield Clinic Colon & Rectal Surgeons have a proven track record of preventing and successfully treating cancer in many patients.

  • The American Cancer Society estimates that there will be more than 106,000 new cases of colon cancer this year and 40,000 cases of rectal cancer.
  • Of those, approximately 1 in 3 will die from the disease, making colorectal cancer the third most common cancer found in men and women in this country.
  • The risk of a person having colorectal cancer in their lifetime is about 1 in 19 and thanks to greater awareness of early detection and treatment, the death rate from colorectal cancer is on the decline.

For those who have developed cancer, or suffer from a variety of other colorectal conditions or diseases, the physicians at Springfield Clinic's Colon & Rectal Surgery can help. As part of Springfield Clinic's fully-integrated network of care, you can expect a prompt referral with one of our specialists when problems arise. You may be referred by your primary care physician once you've reached certain milestones in your life. Current guidelines for colon & rectal health recommend effective screening, like colonoscopy, once you've reached age 50, or family history suggests early screening is necessary.
