By 2002, with many of Springfield Clinic's medical offices bursting at the seams, the time was right to consider a consolidation that would provide patients with greater access, improve facilities for physicians and staff and reduce the overhead of maintaining multiple locations. A strategic plan was conceived to centralize surgical specialties into a single location that would allow better proximity to both Springfield hospitals and patients.
In 2004, construction began on a 118,000+ square foot structure adjacent to Memorial Medical Center in the heart of the Mid-Illinois Medical District in Springfield. The building was designed by BSA LIfeStructures of Indianapolis, Indiana and Harold O'Shea Builder of Springfield, Illinois served as general contractor.
The project was completed by early spring 2006 and fully operational in July of that same summer. The building houses approximately 70 medical specialists, and ancillary services including lab, physical therapy and radiology.
