On June 2, 2009, representatives of Springfield Clinic, Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital and the Lincoln community gathered for official ceremonies that began construction of a new 116,000-square-foot hospital and an adjacent 21,000 square-foot medical office building.
The $50-million, two-story building constructed on Lincoln's west side, near the Logan County Fairgrounds was completed in February of 2011. The master design, started in 2003, is the work of Pansing, Noland & Matlock Ltd, a full-service architectural design firm located in Webster Grove, Missouri. The firm specializes in healthcare projects and innovative patient-focused design elements. Harold O'Shea Builders of Springfield served as the project's general contractor.
A dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony was held March 10, 2011. The event, held in the lobby of the newly constructed ALMH, featured a number of speakers, including Springfield Clinic's Board Chairman, Dr. Kenneth Sagins, and Springfield Clinic provider and President of the ALMH Board, Dr. Melissa Cox.
The new facility opened for business March 28, 2011.
