Welcome to Administration

Springfield Clinic is organized as a Limited Liability Partnership (LLP) and as such is governed by a board of directors, members of which are elected from among the organization's partners. The board designates a chairman who presides over the group.

The board of directors employs a team of executives to manage the business affairs of the organization, listed below. These individuals, listed below, are responsible for the financial viability of the organization, quality of care, operational efficiency, technology, services and many other aspects of a large and dynamic medical practice. Three physicians serve dual roles as administrators in their capacities as Medical Directors and the organization's Chief Medical Officer.

Randall A. Bryant
Chief Executive Officer


As Chief Executive Officer, Bryant is responsible for Springfield Clinic’s performance, compliance and operations. He leads the administrative team and reports directly to the board of directors.

He joined Springfield Clinic in 1988 and served as the Clinic’s Chief Financial Officer before being appointed to his current position in July, 2008. As CFO, Bryant supervised the successful restructure of numerous financial systems and played an integral role in several Springfield Clinic building projects, including the expansion of the group’s Main Campus.

Prior to joining Springfield Clinic, Bryant served as Director of Corporate Finance for Memorial Health System in Springfield, Illinois and before that, worked in public accounting and healthcare finance.

Bryant is a native of Decatur, Illinois. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Illinois State University in 1979 and obtained his Certified Public Accounting license in 1981.

Mark J. Kuhn
Chief Administrative Officer


Kuhn joined the Administrative staff at Springfield Clinic as its Chief Managed Care Officer in 1998. In 2002, he was named Chief Administrative Officer, with additional responsibilities for Marketing, Occupational Medicine and ancillary services, including Laboratory, Physical Therapy and Radiology, Credentialing, Managed Care, Marketing and Communication, Occupational Health and Outreach Service development and regionalization.

During his tenure with Springfield Clinic, Kuhn has played an integral role in the development of key strategic business initiatives and alliances. His achievements include the successful expansion of ancillary services, the formation of the Clinic's Occupational Medicine division, the development of favorable relationships with managed care organizations, including a partnership with Health Alliance and redefining the corporate brand.

An Iowa native, Kuhn graduated from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Minor in Business Administration. Immediately following, he attended University of Iowa, in Iowa City, where he earned his Masters degree in Health Care Administration (MHA).

Prior to Springfield Clinic, Kuhn’s healthcare experience included 12 years with Lake Forest Hospital and its affiliated medical groups in Lake Forest, Illinois.

Andrea J. McKay, MBA, MAOM
Chief Operating Officer


Andrea McKay joined Springfield Clinic in 2012. In her role as the Clinic’s Chief Operating Officer, Ms. McKay oversees the operations at more than forty Springfield Clinic facilities and Specialty Outreach Program locations, as well as the short and long-range planning, direction and coordination of patient care activities. Additionally, Ms. McKay is responsible for all construction projects.

A lifelong "hoosier," McKay graduated cum laude from Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, IN. Since that time, she has earned two graduate degrees—a Master of Business Administration from Indiana Wesleyan University in 1996, and a 2006 Master of Art in Organizational Management from Bluffton University in Bluffton, OH.

Prior to her position with Springfield Clinic, McKay served as the Vice President & Chief Operations Officer of King’s Daughters Integrated Practices, a division of King’s Daughters Health System in Kentucky.

Alan Nerone, CPA
Chief Financial Officer


Nerone joined Springfield Clinic in June, 2008 as the organization’s Chief Financial Officer. As such, he is responsible for the development and implementation of all financial procedures, policies, internal controls, strategic financial planning, purchasing and facilities management.

A Pawnee, Illinois native, Nerone offers more than eighteen years experience working with and for health care organizations in central Illinois. Previously, he served as the Chief Financial Officer for Pekin Hospital in Pekin, Illinois.

Nerone is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) and is a past Board Member and President of HFMA’s McMahon-Illini Chapter. He is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from University of Illinois Springfield in Accountancy.

Carolyn Otten, CPA
Chief Human Resources Officer


Otten has been a member of the Springfield Clinic team since October 2002. Her current responsibilities include Human Resources, Information Privacy, Information Security, Internal Audit, Organizational Development and Physician Recruitment. She leads the way in pursuit of preserving the culture of Springfield Clinic. Otten’s mission, as Chief Human Resource Officer (CHRO) of Springfield Clinic is to serve the organization as a strategic advisor, shaping how the human capital of the organization fits into short and long term objectives and strategies of the organization. Otten serves as the talent architect for the organization. She is determined to change the delivery of health care through best practice information security and privacy practices, modeling organizational change, and empowering individuals to succeed.

Otten is committed to the “The SC Way” and the organization's overall service philosophy to provide an experience that improves, enhances, and extends the quality of life for Springfield Clinic patients, employees and physicians. In addition, she has been a driving force behind process improvement necessary to improve efficiencies and the overall experience at Springfield Clinic affecting every patient, every employee and every physician, at each encounter. She was also intimately involved in the planning of renovation and expansion projects represented at Springfield Clinic 1st, Main Campus, Taylorville and Lincoln operating locations. She was born and raised in Springfield, Illinois and attended University of Illinois Springfield where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accountancy. She is a licensed Certified Public Accountant, in the State of Illinois. She is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, American Society of Training & Development, Illinois CPA Society, Society of Human Resource Management and on the Board of Trustees for the Hoogland Center for the Arts. Prior to joining Springfield Clinic she had a successful career in public accounting.

Mary Stewart, RN
Chief Clinical Officer


Stewart has been a member of the Springfield Clinic administrative team since 2001 as the Chief Clinical Officer. She is responsible for clinical services and oversees departments that include: Advanced Practitioner Recruitment & Support, Ambulatory Surgery & Endoscopy Center, Clinical Development, Hospitalist Services, Quality Management, Research, Tele-communications and Tele-Nurse. Her passion is the delivery of quality healthcare to each and every patient at Springfield Clinic.

Stewart led the successful expansion of the Clinic's Ambulatory Surgery and Endoscopy Center, overseeing the facility's growth from two to nine rooms and the addition of anesthesia services. Her achievements include the successful formation of the Springfield Clinic's Research Department in 2003 and the creation of the Hospital Medicine division in early 2006. She is dedicated to quality and a driving force behind the development of our centers of excellence, nurse navigators and patient centered medical home. Stewart’s leadership resulted in straight A’s on survey reporting granting three year accreditation, the highest level available from the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) in 2012.

Stewart offers many years of nursing experience, having previously served as a surgical nurse at Springfield Clinic and the manager of St. John's Hospital's Surgical Unit prior to returning to the Clinic in 2001. She was born in Highland, Illinois, but has called Springfield her home since she was a child. She is a graduate of St. John's College of Nursing and earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from St. Francis College in Joliet. She is a Registered Nurse licensed in the state of Illinois.


J.Michael Zinzilieta, MDObstetrics & Gynecology
Chief Medical Officer


Dr. Zinzilieta joined Springfield Clinic’s Obstetrics & Gynecology Department in 1985 after completing his medical education and residency at SIU School of Medicine in Springfield. Since that time, he has earned an outstanding reputation for the delivery of quality patient care and clinical excellence. His commitment and leadership to Springfield Clinic have been demonstrated through participation on numerous committees, including the Quality Management and Peer Review Committee and the Ambulatory Surgery Committee. He has also served as Chairman of the OB/GYN Department.

As Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Zinzilieta represents the medical interests of and guides the clinical direction for Springfield Clinic. He oversees all aspects of clinical care, quality management and physician relations, including recruitment, advocacy, and performance. In addition, he leads the Clinic’s Medical Directors.

Board certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology, Dr. Zinzilieta is a member of the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, American Medical Association, Illinois State Medical Society, Sangamon County Medical Society and Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.

Lynne D. Barkmeier, MDVascular Surgery
Medical Director


Dr. Lynne Barkmeier, a native of Columbus, Nebraska, earned her medical degree from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. At Creighton, she completed a General Surgery residency then relocated to Springfield, Illinois for a fellowship in Vascular Surgery at SIU School of Medicine. Upon completion, Dr. Barkmeier joined the staff of SIU, practicing there for nine years, before entering private practice for three. She joined Springfield Clinic in 2000.

She maintains certification in Vascular Surgery and is a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Barkmeier is a member of the Sangamon County Medical Society and Illinois State Medical Society.

Joseph D. Conlon, MDPediatric Dermatology
Medical Director


Dr. Conlon joined Springfield Clinic’s Dermatology Department. One of only a few hundred board certified Pediatric Dermatologists in the entire country, Dr. Conlon received his medical degree from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield. He then completed two residencies—one in Pediatrics at the Childrens’ Hospital of Wisconsin and one in Dermatology at the Medical College of Wisconsin, both in Milwaukee. He was then awarded a fellowship in Pediatric Dermatology from the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Board certified in both Dermatology and Pediatric Dermatology from the American Board of Dermatology, Dr. Conlon is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Board of Dermatology, the American Medical Association, the Society of Pediatric Dermatology and is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.

Kenneth Sagins, MD – Internal Medicine/Pediatrics
Medical Director

Kenneth Sagins, MD was born in Detroit, Michigan and attended medical school at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine here in Springfield, where he also completed his residency in Internal Medicine/Pediatrics.

Dr. Sagins is board certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine and in Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics. He is a member of the American Board of Physician Executives, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Physicians and the Illinois State Medical Society.

Dr. Sagins joined Springfield Clinic in 1997. A former Board of Directors Chairman (2010-2011), he leads the Service Improvement Committee as chairman and serves on the Operations Committee.



Donald S. Ross, MD, MBA, FACS – General Surgery
Medical Director


Dr. Donald Ross, a native of West Virginia, earned his medical degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN. He then relocated to Springfield for his General Surgery residency at SIU School of Medicine. Upon completion, Dr. Ross was awarded a fellowship in Surgical Oncology Research from Harvard Medical School. He joined Springfield Clinic in 1995 following a merger with Springfield Surgical Associates, where he’d practiced since 1992.

Dr. Ross maintains certification in General Surgery and specializes in breast cancer and breast diseases. He is a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the American College of Physician Executives, the American College of Surgeons, the American Medical Association, the Illinois Chapter American College of Surgeons, the Illinois State Medical Society, the Illinois Surgical Society, the Sangamon County Medical Society and Society of Surgical Oncology. He is also a Clinical Professor at SIU School of Medicine.
